Pajama Sam 3: You Are What You Eat From Your Head To Your Feet is a "point-and-click" adventure game in the Pajama Sam series developed by Humongous Entertainment in 2000.

Plot[]

Just before dinner, Sam was eating several boxes of cookies in order to get 20 box tops for a Pajama Man action figure. Suddenly, Sam is whisked away by his Choc Amok cookies to the fats and sweets party in Mop Top Island. After devouring the huge piece of cake, Sam decides to finally leave the party. When Sam tells them his concerns about spoiling dinner, the fats and sweets become offended and throw him in jail.

After arriving to jail, a guard tells him to remain until "next month" for a trial and locks the gate. Sam realizes that he can't afford to stay in jail a whole month and needs to find a way to break free. While in the candy-cane prison, Sam meets Florette, a broccoli wearing a boater. She explains to him why she was locked up and that she needs to make it back in time for the peace delegates conference (one member of each food group chosen to represent themselves so there will be no war). Sam is able to free Florette and himself. Florette thanks Sam and runs back to the food pyramid for the emergency conference. Inside the Food Pyramid, Sam spots his familiar friend Carrot (from the previous two games), who was leading the peace conference. Carrot explains to Sam that General Beetfoot will declare war unless the conference goes on. Unfortunately, four other delegates are missing. Sam needs to locate these other delegates and get them out of trouble before the General notices they are missing and declares war.

Depending on the game path, Granny Smythe will either be stuck in a caramel pit, or stuck in the middle of a soda can dance. Chuck Cheddar might be stuck on a ledge of a snow mountain or trapped in his hot air balloon. Bean 47 is either mixed up with the other beans or he may be trapped high on a machine part because the other beans are on strike. As for Pierre La Pain, he may be locked in a prizebooth or he may be stuck on top a Ferris wheel.

After all the delegates are rescued, Sam goes to the peace conference, but instead of finding the six delegates working together, he finds them arguing over which food group is better. Carrot and the General arrive and watch Sam give them an inspiring speech about working together. After the delegates cheer, Carrot stares at Sam and congratulates him before Florette arrives, asking him if he can stay to make future plans or if he needs to get home for dinner, to which Sam completely forgot about, making the game end.

Gameplay[]

Pajama Sam 3 features gameplay similar to the other Humongous games. It is played almost entirely with the mouse, using a left click to interact with the environment. Sam has an inventory which can be accessed at any time by hovering the mouse at the bottom of the screen. Clicking the computer icon on the left-hand side of the inventory brings up a menu with options to save the game, load a game, quit the game, set up the game paths, or view the credits. The spacebar pauses the game, allowing several more game options. The game is quit by either an option in the pause menu or an option in the inventory menu.

Throughout the game's course, players are challenged with solving puzzles and interacting with characters. Puzzles are solved by using items to manipulate something in the environment. These items are usually found scattered around the game world or are obtained from other characters. All items are accessible through the inventory mentioned above and all have a purpose during the game.

Cookie box tops are collected as part of a large, optional "scavenger hunt". While on the island of Moptop, Sam tries to find and collect twenty box tops that have been scattered by the runaway cookies. After all twenty box tops are found, a special animation plays where the box tops are mailed back to the "Chocamok" cookie company in return for a "Pajama Man Action Figure with Titanic Elbow Thrust!".

Items[]

  • Bag: Zak Zuke knows how to slip by the Sweet Troops - just hide under a bag! His bag may help a sharp delegate float to the ground.
  • BCS-4000 Bean Sorter Manual: Somewhere on the library shelves lies Dr. Gizmo Flutewing's precious book. Little did he know that his book would hold the code to free someone from the masses.
  • Bonbon: If it looks like a rock, treat it like a rock. This candy might just get you off the hook!
  • Candy Cane: Find the spot and this brittle candy cane may just give way! It might be a stretch, but this sweet tidbit may just set you free.
  • Condiments: These sauces make food taste good! If you choose the right one, it may get you out of a jam.
  • Etiquette Lesson: Selma Celery will crisply set you straight on etiquette rules.
  • Free Dance Lesson Card: Visit the bulletin board in the library. Learn some steps yourself and quench a troupes' thirst for some new moves by getting 2 Free Dance Lesson Cards (only one at a time, please).
  • Jail Key: It's the key that will liberate Sam and Florette from their candied cage.
  • Peace Delegates: This is a list of all the missing peace delegates. Click on it to see whom you have found and who is still missing.

  • Plunger: To be a plumber -- find a plunger. Keep an eye out before you slide right past it!
  • Pumpkin Head: Mickey Hollandaise doesn't want it, but it might be advantageous in a tuberous situation!
  • Red Shoes: They bring audiences to tears or grace to a certain celery stalk.
  • Ski Lift Ticket: It's an old ski lift ticket that Paper doesn't need anymore. It may come in handy on the slopes.
  • Super Plunger with a Telescoping Handle: This super plunger can handle clogs that normal plungers can't! Caution: To be used by plumbers only.
  • Wrench: This isn't just any old wrench. It's the Shaftman High Tensile Monkeyman 30-300 Autozoom. Every plumber has to have one! Great for fixing leaks or replacing pipes.

Paths/Storylines[]

Like the first game, the number of possible games is easy to calculate. The game paths have four main variables. There are a total of eight paths:

  • Chuck Cheddar can be either on a cliff in the mountains or in a hot air balloon that got stuck in a cotton candy cloud.
  • Pierre Le Pain can be either on the ferris wheel at Muscle Beach or inside a prize booth.
  • Bean 47 can be either mixed up with the other kidney beans in the Foothills or on a girder while the jellybeans and kidney beans are on strike.
  • Granny Smythe can be either being tossed around by the dancing soda cans in the Bluburbs or in the Caramel Pit.

There are 16 different game paths that can be made by combining these variables. Pajama Sam 2 and 3 are the only Junior Adventures that allow the player to choose which game path to play without using the debug rooms.

Trivia[]

  • This was the only Junior Adventure game to be released for the PlayStation 1. It was released in December 2001 following the mass layoffs by Infogrames earlier that year. It, along with Backyard Soccer: MLS Edition were one of the two games to be ported to home consoles during the original Humongous Entertainment's lifetime.
  • A demo version has Pajama Sam in jail and in the astronomy tower.
  • This game was re-released as a DVD game in 2005, but for unknown reasons, it was only released in Europe and Oceania, unlike all the other versions of it.
  • In the demo, the computer used from Pajama Sam 2: Thunder and Lightning Aren't So Frightening is used in the bottom left of the screen.
  • The game files has a piece of text that reads WTO =. If the text is changed to WTO = S, the Sweet Troops that appear early in the game will have police riot gear, most likely a reference to the Seattle riots.
  • When Sam grabs a bonbon after saying, "Hey! Bonbons!" he says, "I like bonbons." in the demo, but in the real game, he says, "I like those." instead.
  • When Sam escapes from jail in the demo, he says to Florette, "Okay. I'll see you later.", but in the real game, he says, "Okay. Let's go." instead.
  • Food Pyramid music plays in Carrot and General Beetfoot's house and the Foothills.
  • Bluburbian music plays when you choose one of the doors leading to the places that Sam and Sprinkle can enter by going through them.
  • The only places that contain one piece of background music are jail and the library.
  • In the Caramel Pit storyline, Mickey Hollandaise stays in his house, but in the Dance Lesson one, after he does his jokes correctly, he immediately leaves to have a talk with his agent.
  • When Sam and Sprinkle enter the heart for the first time, Sam says, "Oooh! It's creepy in here.".
  • When Pierre Le Pain leaves for the conference in the Ferris Wheel storyline, Sam says, "Bye!" in French, but in the prize booth one, he says it in his normal language instead.
  • The Balloon Salesman only appears in the storyline where Pierre Le Pain is stuck on the ferris wheel, not in the one where he is stuck in the prize booth.
  • Zak Zuke only appears in the storyline where Chuck is stuck in a balloon, not in the one where he is stuck on the ledge.
  • After Pierre Le Pain is rescued from the ferris wheel, getting hit on the head by a mallet, the Balloon Salesman immediately takes him to the conference.
  • In the Prize Booth storyline, the mallet stays here, but in the ferris wheel one, it disappears immediately and is not used anymore, but it will come in handy again in debug mode when you click on it in the item screen. This only happens in the American dub, but in the Dutch dub, it disappears and it's not used anymore, just like in the Ferris Wheel one.
  • When Paper says, "Yup!", Sam opens his hands when he doesn't have a plunger, but when Sam has a plunger, he doesn't do it.
  • Putt-Putt appears with Pep on the foreman's computer, having Penguin Boogie music play while Pep pops balloons on the moon in Putt-Putt and Pep's Balloon-O-Rama.
  • In the Ledge storyline, the mountain features a sign saying, "QUIET! Avalanche zone.", but in the cotton candy cloud one, it features a whistle in which Sam has to sound off in order for him to distract the gumdrops and make them leave work immediately.
  • The Girl Cupcakes pack up their towels and leave immediately when the bell is rung or when they discover shade.
  • In the Ferris Wheel storyline, when the Girl Cupcakes pack up their towels and leave immediately, the Man Muffins say, "Awww!", but in the Prize Booth one, they don't say it.
  • In one storyline, while the Girl Cupcakes are gone, the Man Muffins say, "Work out some more. what else?" "Yeah!" "All right!", but in the other, their ways of saying their lines sound different.
  • In the real game, when the yams block the entrance to the astronomy tower, which is for gourds only, while holding knife and spoon spears, their spears' clanging sound is heard, but in the demo, it's muted.
  • In the Ferris Wheel storyline, Wheat says, "Darn!" with Corn saying, "I hope they come back tomorrow!" and Bran saying, "What will we do until then?", but in the Prize Booth one, Wheat says, "Whoa!" with Corn saying, "There go the cupcakes, dude!" and Bran saying, "Bummer!" with Corn saying, "What are we going to do now?".
  • The gumdrops leave work immediately when Sam rescues Chuck Cheddar or when the whistle goes off for the first time.
  • In the dance lesson storyline, Selina Celery wears her dancing shoes, but in the caramel pit one, she is in bare feet.
  • Clicking on Pierre Le Pain, Luke Wigglebig, and Florette will make the cursor still appear.
  • Clicking on Chuck Cheddar, Bean 47, and Granny Smythe will have conversational cutscenes.
  • Clicking on Luke Wigglebig will make Sam's line in the list get changed to "That's Luke Wigglebig. He's already at the conference." from "Carrot says that Luke Wigglebig is already at the conference.", but only when the delegates aren't rescued yet.
  • When Sam rescues a delegate, he says, "That's one down, three to go.", but Carrot and General Beetfoot don't tell him how many more delegates he needs to rescue, unlike Pajama Sam 2: Thunder and Lightning Aren't So Frightening, where Thunder and Lightning automatically tell him how many more machines he needs to fix.
  • In this game, Sam says, "That's one down, three to go.", but what Thunder means in Pajama Sam 2: Thunder and Lightning Aren't So Frightening is "…because there are still three more machines to be fixed!".
  • When Sam has the book and jumps out of the library, his jumping sounds are muted, causing an alarm to go off.
  • When General Beetfoot hangs up the phone after angrily saying, "Great goulash!", its ring startles Sam and Carrot silently.
  • In the mountains, the miners do the shushing, just like Wink, who did it to Blink for real, and Thunder, who yelled at Lightning instead.
  • The extra locations are the balloons near the boardwalk, the shelves near the library, the caramel pit near the stomach, and the gondola near the wisdom tooth.
  • More Bull is the theme of Sam, Florette, the Jailer, and the Gourd Guards in the American demo, but it's also the theme of Sam, the miners, Syllabus the Sage, and Chuck Cheddar in all the dubs of the real game.
  • Scissors says the word "Cheese" for Swiss and Feta, but he omits it for Muenster.

Goofs[]

  • When Sam arrives, a cutscene shows General Beetfoot on the phone angrily saying, "What? I said "Guard", not "Gourd"!", and when he angrily says, "Great goulash!", Sam stays frozen and Carrot does not look at him, but only after Sam enters the Gourds' House for the first time and leaves immediately.
  • The second or other times the whistle sounds, the gumdrops don't come back.
